Sudden fires inside a building can be very dangerous and mostly unpredictable. There can be various causes for fires inside buildings. Most fires are generally caused by negligence and human error, such as improper handling and storing of combustible chemicals, but they can also arise due to other issues as well. Some of the more common causes are due to faults in wiring and electrical equipment, which can easily catch fire if not properly attended to.

The problem with fire is that it tends to spread very easily and very rapidly, which is it can become quite difficult to control once enough time has passed. A small fire caused by something as small as a match or cigarette butt can easily turn into a huge wall of flames engulfing the whole building and even one or two nearby buildings. Since a fire can have to potential to be so destructive, it is quite important that people are prepared for any fire emergency that could arise.

This becomes especially important when we consider any business firm or large company. A fire can potentially wreak havoc upon such firm, and a big enough fire is sure to cause a huge loss on part of the company which owns or rents the building. It is therefore absolutely necessary that any such firm takes adequate precautions against fires. The first thing that comes to mind is purchasing proper fire protection supplies, which includes most types of fire extinguishers available for purchase. Of course just getting the equipment is not enough to stay safe.

Fire extinguishers, like any other tools, have to be used in a proper way. You probably might have wondered why there are so many different types of fire extinguishers available. The reason for this is that fires can originate from a variety of sources, and water is not the answer to every one of them. In fact, it can be quite dangerous to do so, especially if the fire is an electrical fire or if it originated from a fuel spillage. In such cases, it is better to use alternate extinguishers, including foam, carbon dioxide or powder containing extinguishers.

When it comes to fire extinguishers, you must also make sure that they are regularly checked by a technician (a monthly check would be enough). Fire extinguisher maintenance requirements is as important as practising fire drills and the like, so do not neglect to do this, as an expired extinguisher won’t be of any use when you might actually need it. The extinguisher placement is also an important step that should be considered. You should place them in a way that they are easily accessible and so that there are enough for use for a few people. Remember that there are rules and regulations you must follow when placing them, so it best to consult an expert on this matter.

Fire prevention is not only limited to extinguishers. In addition to them, you may consider about using and installing proper sprinkler systems and fire alarm systems at your workplace. The employees should also be properly educated about the risks of fire and a proper emergency plan must be formulated, so that a proper evacuation can be carried out if any accident is to occur. You might also consider about getting a fire insurance just in case. Remember that if you take proper steps, you won’t have to worry so much even if a fire happens, and you will enough time to prevent or minimize any damage or harm done to you, your fellow workers and your business!
